News

Matadi , Democratic Republic of Congo – Port congestion

Since December 2010, Matadi port is experiencing an unfortunate congestion, which is adversely impacting our schedule reliability and creating a backlog of containers in Pointe Noire Port (last transhipment port for Matadi Cargo).

This congestion is partly due to the Matadi Port Authority’s decision to prioritise conventional vessels port entry in order to ensure food supplies in the local market during the festive season. Suspension of Congo river traffic due to deterioration in river draft to a non-operational level has also added to the congestion.

Dredging of the river has commenced from 20 January 2011 and we remain hopeful that the situation will soon improve.

If you have any questions, please contact your local Maersk Line representative.
