Dear Valued Customers,

Due to the ongoing labor issues in Auckland, New Zealand, we will increase the Congestion Surcharge (CON) for all dry and reefer shipments to/from Auckland. Since the first announcement, the situation has worsened and the entire service network has reached a saturation point.

As a result, our contingencies have become increasingly more expensive and difficult to operate. Vessels are delayed longer as the congestion is slowing down port productivity and the supply of empty equipment to other New Zealand ports has become a complex and costly process. Unfortunately, Maersk Line is unable to absorb the additional costs and has sought to increase them.

Please see below for scopes, effective dates and amounts:

World (excl. Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Guam, US, Virgin Islands (US), American Samoa and Colombia) to/from Auckland:

Effective Date: April 9, 2012

Old Rates:

  • USD 80 per 20′ container
  • USD 160 per 40′ container / high cube

New Rates:

  • USD 130 per 20′ container
  • USD 260 per 40′ container / high cube

Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Guam, US, Virgin Islands (US), American Samoa and Colombia to/from Auckland:

Effective Date: May 1, 2012

Old Rates:

  • USD 80 per 20′ container
  • USD 160 per 40′ container / high cube

New Rates:

  • USD 130 per 20′ container
  • USD 260 per 40′ container / high cube

The surcharge is applicable until further notice and until the disputes at Ports of Auckland have been successfully resolved and services have returned to a normal operating level.
