Maersk Line would like to inform you that effective July 1, 2012, a new tax, Port License Fee (PLF), is being imposed on the transportation community by the Victorian Government in Melbourne, Australia. The cost will be charged per TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) for all full containers loading and discharging at Melbourne. Please note that this fee will be billed by the Port of Melbourne to all shipping lines. We will collect this fee from our customers and pass it along to the government.
In order to maintain transparency for our customers, we will invoice this tax as a separate charge line. As of now, the exact level of the charge being passed to shipping lines has not yet been confirmed. We fully expect to be able to communicate the amount by June 1, 2012.
